Christmas comes but once a year and unfortunately now’s the time that people may be discovering they have had some unwanted visitors move in among the tinsel and baubles.
Both rats and squirrels will have sought out winter harbourages by now and they are more than capable of climbing outside walls, mission-impossible style, to get into lofts via damaged soffits and fascia boards. Once in, they will make short work of Christmas decorations, loft insulation and, most seriously, electrical cabling and joists.
Good facilities management is key to preventing this issue from occurring. Make regular checks of the exterior of your property. Look for any cracked bricks or damaged fascias and soffits that will admit a rodent. Typically anything larger than a pencil width will allow one to come into your home.
It is impossible to completely proof against rodents but if you discover an infestation, it’s time to call in the professionals before the critters cut your power, chow down on your decorations or ruin your Christmas Day!
